The recent Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo demonstrated a commitment to bringing the sexy back in the gaming world. The company unveiled a remastered version of Metroid Prime, showcasing the iconic character of Samus Aran with a more pronounced and higher quality butt in her armor. Additionally, in the Splatoon 3 DLC video, viewers were treated to the sight of a character in a white skin-tight suit, flaunting a glorious butt that has quickly become a talking point among fans. These two instances highlight Nintendo’s push towards a more mature and sensual gaming experience, a departure from its traditionally family-friendly image.
Subtle is Better – Nintendo Bringing Sexy Back
While it’s true that overly sexualizing characters in gaming can often be problematic and detract from the overall experience, when done with a purposeful, mature, and artful approach, it can be a nice detail of fan service. This is the case with the remastered version of Metroid Prime. In the original game, Samus Aran’s powersuit was designed with a nice rear end, but the lower resolution and texture assets of the time didn’t make it as prominent. However, in the remastered version, the improved graphics make this aspect of the design much more noticeable and it becomes a welcome added detail for fans.
It’s important to note that this kind of fan service should be approached with sensitivity and respect for the character and the game’s universe, but not to the point that it mutates the original artists vision into something that it is not intended to be.
The sexualization of a character should not be the main focus or defining characteristic, but rather a detail that enhances the overall design. In the case of Metroid Prime and Samus Aran, her butt serves as a representation of her femininity adding to her character and making her a more rounded and complete hero.
This is What More Polygons Means
The improvement of graphics technology has allowed video game developers to push the boundaries of creativity and art direction in their games. One such example is the remastered version of Metroid Prime, which showcases the power of modern graphics technology in enhancing the original game. The increased resolution and texture quality, combined with improved lighting and world design, elevates the artistry of the game and creates a more immersive experience for players.
One of the key benefits of improved graphics technology is the ability to create more complex and varied character models. In the original Metroid Prime, the hardware limitations meant that the character models had to be relatively simple, with less intricate details and textures. However, in the remastered version, the improved graphics technology allows for the creation of more detailed and diverse character models, including the titular character of Samus Aran. This increase in detail allows for the character to be more expressive and adds a new level of depth to the story and gameplay.
Another aspect of the game that benefits from improved graphics technology is the world design. The original Metroid Prime had a rich and detailed world, but the limitations of the hardware at the time meant that the designers had to be mindful of the resources they were using. In the remastered version, the improved graphics technology allows the designers to add more detail and variety to the world, creating a more immersive and engaging environment for players to explore. The increased resolution and texture quality also make it possible to add more intricate lighting effects, adding depth and realism to the world.
The improved graphics technology also allows for greater creativity in the game’s art direction. The original Metroid Prime had a distinct and iconic visual style, but the limitations of the hardware meant that the designers had to be mindful of the resources they were using. In the remastered version, the improved graphics technology gives the designers more freedom to experiment with different art styles and create a unique and memorable visual experience for players. The increased resolution and texture quality also make it possible to add more intricate materials and surfaces to the world, making it feel more alive and believable.
In conclusion, the remastered version of Metroid Prime is a testament to the power of modern graphics technology in enhancing the original game. The improved graphics technology allows for the creation of more complex and varied character models, more detailed and immersive world design, and greater creativity in the art direction. These enhancements add a new layer of depth and excitement to the game, making it a more engaging and memorable experience for players. The improved graphics technology not only allows for the creation of better-looking games, but also enables developers to be more creative and push the boundaries of what is possible in video games.
Nintendo Switch Underpowered My Ass
The two first boss encounters in Metroid Prime will showcase the major improvements done to the character models in the game and remember that this is all running on the same years old Nintendo Switch hardware:
The Nintendo Switch was first released in March of 2017, making it just over 5 years old as of February 2023. When compared to other modern consoles and smartphones, the Switch can be considered relatively old in terms of hardware technology.
Modern gaming consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, which were released in late 2020, feature much more powerful hardware than the Switch. They have more advanced processors, more RAM, and more storage space, which allows them to run games with higher resolutions, smoother frame rates, and more advanced graphics. These consoles are also capable of supporting 8K resolution, which is four times the resolution of 4K and sixteen times that of 1080p.
In comparison, the Switch is limited to 720p resolution when playing on the handheld screen and can output up to 1080p when connected to a TV. The Switch also has a less powerful processor and less RAM than the current generation of gaming consoles. These hardware limitations mean that the Switch cannot run games with the same level of visual detail and complexity as the current generation of gaming consoles.
Fun fact it is looking to be that Metroid Prime Remastered plays at 600p on handheld mode and 900p on Docked mode. It is running at a stable 60 FPS though which is really impressive with the level of graphics in display.
When compared to smartphones, the Nintendo Switch is also relatively old in terms of hardware technology. Modern smartphones, such as the iPhone 13 or Samsung Galaxy S21, feature much more powerful hardware than the Switch, with faster processors, more RAM, and more storage space. They are also capable of running games with higher resolutions and more advanced graphics, and have the advantage of being portable and always connected to the internet.
However, despite its age and relative hardware limitations, the Nintendo Switch has still managed to be a popular and successful console. This is due to its unique design, which allows players to switch between handheld and TV modes, and its strong line-up of exclusive games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Switch’s hybrid design has proven to be popular with players who value portability and versatility in their gaming experiences.
In conclusion, when compared to other modern consoles and smartphones, the Nintendo Switch is relatively old in terms of hardware technology. However, its unique design and strong line-up of exclusive games have helped it to remain popular and successful, despite its age and hardware limitations. The Switch’s continued success serves as a testament to the importance of design and software in the gaming industry, and the enduring appeal of Nintendo’s iconic characters and franchises.
Adults Also Play Splatoon
First let me explain to those who live under rocks what the game is and after I will share with you why the Nintendo Direct presentation on the Splatoon 3 DLC specifically part 2 of the DLC was so interesting to me and consequently to you.
Splatoon 3 is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo. It is the latest installment in the Splatoon series, which first debuted in 2015. In Splatoon 3, players control a character called an Inkling, who can transform between a humanoid form and a squid form. The game is set in a futuristic world where the majority of the population is made up of Inklings, who engage in battles using paint-based weapons.
The main objective of Splatoon 3 is to cover as much of the map with your team’s paint as possible. Players must navigate the map, using a variety of weapons to defeat their opponents and cover the map in their team’s paint. The team with the most paint coverage at the end of the match is declared the winner. The game features various multiplayer modes, including Turf War, where two teams compete to cover the most ground with paint, and Ranked Battles, where players can compete in more challenging, skill-based matches.
In addition to multiplayer modes, Splatoon 3 also features a single-player campaign, where players must complete a series of missions to uncover the mysteries of the Splatoon universe. The single-player campaign is designed to be more challenging than previous Splatoon games, and includes a variety of obstacles, enemies, and boss battles.
One of the standout features of Splatoon 3 is its unique art style and character design. The game is known for its vibrant, colorful visuals and quirky, cartoon-like characters. The Inklings themselves are highly customizable, with a variety of different clothing and accessory options available. Players can also create their own unique designs for their weapons and gear, adding an extra layer of customization to the game.
Splatoon 3 also features a robust social system, allowing players to connect and play with friends online. The game includes various features to make it easy for players to find and play with friends, such as a friend list, a matchmaking system, and the ability to form parties and chat with other players.
The Fan Service is REAL!
All in all it is a great game even for adults, but it has lacked in the fan service side of things and not to its fault mind you, but with the latest DLC announcements I didn’t fail to notice that the fan service is there and more prominent.
I doubt that the female squid with white skin tight outfit has a pronounced rear behind by accident. Same as the cover image of the DLC 1 you tell that in good Fortnite fashion the devs or marketing team are making use of the blessed parts of these squids.
It is a bit of a miss match to use the word fan service with Splatoon and refer to this subject since the game’s fans probably aren’t playing it much for that reason of sexiness, but I don’t mind it and I doubt you do to.
Moderation in All Things
Regarding the use of fan service in video games, some might argue that it can be a way to enhance the overall experience and appeal of a game. Fan service can include references, Easter eggs, or scenes that are designed to appeal to a certain group of fans. These elements can provide a sense of excitement and anticipation, and can also help to create a more immersive and enjoyable gaming experience.
However, when it comes to sexual content, it’s important to be mindful of how it is used and presented in a game. Overuse of sexual content can become repetitive and distracting, and may take away from the overall vision and goals of the game. Additionally, the use of sexual content may not be appropriate for all audiences, and could even be offensive to some players.
Therefore, it is important for game developers to consider their audience and the goals of the game when incorporating fan service and sexual content. A well-crafted and well-placed fan service element can add to the game’s appeal and help to engage players, while excessive or inappropriate sexual content can detract from the overall experience and harm the game’s reputation. Ultimately, the key to successful fan service and sexual content in video games is balance and consideration.
Nintendo is Learning
Besides the fan service being implemented a little more in modern Nintendo and yes the tighter rules on the EShop over sexual games might be a counter to my argument here that is a topic for another day.
I discuss further in depth in my article here < Link > on how Nintendo is learning how to do remasters from the likes of studios on Xbox and PS5 like Halo MCC, Last of Us Part 1 and Dead Space so that their remasters aren’t just stupid damn so called “HD” upscales of older titles.
