As of today, March 29th, League of Legends Wild Rift is available for the North American region. No matter if you are gaming on iOS or Android phone, you will find the 3.5GB game available for download in your app store.
What is League Of Legends Wild Rift?
Wild Rift is a MOBA game, played on a mobile device. The game was developed by Riot Games, the same publisher which owns League of Legends. Until mid 2020, League of Legends was only available on PC and not on console or mobile. Starting September 2020, Riot Games rolled out Beta access to their new mobile version of League of Legends, Wild Rift.
In LoL, as well as Wild Rift, two teams of five players battle each other trying to destroy the other team’s base. Each player picks a hero. There are hundreds of different heroes which can be equipped with thousands of different combinations of gear, runes and spells. Whichever team destroyed the base first, wins the game.
Cross-Platform & Cross-Save
If you play League of Legends on PC, you might be wondering if you are able to log into your PC account from your phone and pick up where you left off. The answer is no. As of right now there is no cross-platform play or progression, meaning everyone starts with a fresh level one account in Wild Rift.
Riot Games intentionally did not implement cross-progression in order to even the playing field and allow all gamers, new to the genre or old veterans, to start with the heroes, spells and runes. Allowing veterans to use their geared out accounts against new players, might discourage players from playing the game, because they are so far behind.
If you have purchased heroes, skins or other cosmetic items, you will not be able to use them on your Wild Rift account. Wild Rift is also coming to consoles soon, however there will not be cross-platform play between PC and mobile, mobile and console or console and PC.
How is it different than Mobile Legends Bang Bang
Mobile Legends Bang Bang is a mobile MOBA game developed by the Chinese company Moontoon. On the first look League of Legends Wild Rift and Mobile Legends Bang Bang appear identical. The heroes might be slightly different, but the objective and playstyle remain the same.
League of Legends Wild Rift is a newer mobile game and therefore benefits from better graphics. However Wild Rift has more to offer than just heroes. Heroes need to be leveled up in order to unlock new runes, which are another building block in a players build. Wild Rift offers more depth than Mobile Legends. In regards to playtime, an average game runs about 10-20 minutes for both mobile games.
At the end of the day both games are MOBAs and therefore very similar. Both games are also free to download on either iOS or Android. Before making a decision of which MOBA to pick up, I would recommend downloading both and playing both. From my personal opinion League of Legends Wild Rift offers more depth and better graphics, which makes it attractive to my taste.
