Are you one of those people who rage against remakes when they’re announced? With a gleam in their eyes, gamers will anticipate the release of the first-person shooter game and start dreaming of finally getting to play it on their preferred consoles. Then someone from the gaming sphere will make the headline announcement that this game is actually going to get a remake. A collective groan can be heard rising up around forums and social media as gamers collectively jump onto this bandwagon of nostalgia-fueled outrages at video game companies daring to bring back classic games with modern updates or tweaks. But let’s be honest – while we may moan our way through press releases, deep down 99% of us still enjoy these remakes!
Nostalgia
Video game nostalgia is similar to other forms of video nostalgia, in that it involves a deep emotional response to memories of past experiences and feelings. Improved graphics – Don’t lie, because you actually like video game remakes!
Modern graphics can greatly enhance classic video games when done correctly. By updating the visuals, textures and animation of a game, developers can create an immersive experience that is more visually appealing and on par with modern standards. In addition, modern graphics can bring details to life that may have been too small or costly to render in the original games. This can drastically improve the atmosphere and aesthetic of a game, making it look more realistic and visually appealing to today’s players. When balanced with careful consideration for the original game’s style, modern graphics can truly enhance classic video games for the better.
Evidence of this and perfect examples are games like resident evil 2 remastered, and the most current remastered release from EA called dead space. These horror video games showcase that improved graphics along with modern graphic techniques done correctly can enhance video game dramatically, making it better than the original most of the time. At the very least unique enough to warrant its existence.
Destroy all humans 2 remake Destroy All Humans Reprobed and even the destroy all humans first video game remake are also great examples of modern technology enhancing a classic video game for the better. The character models, screen resolution and bump in fps make the game feel more alive and well played.
All of these higher end graphics are developed with a lot of pain and challenges thanks to the advantage that the developers have access to a new generation of tools in order to improve the title in hand.
I think one of the biggest examples would be halo master chief collection, bringing one of Damien’s biggest franchises classical games between modern standard depth max steel source material.
This collection came out with issues at first, but now it is a solid example and maybe the best of them all when it comes to remasters. The access to new generation tools developed in the last few years have put this game’s graphics ahead in every way.
It did retain the trademark style of the originals so nothing got lost and instead every aspect got pushed to 4k resolution, 60 and up to 120 fps which is just a few of the many ways in which it got enhanced.
It’s not all perfect though
I personally like the graphics on the Grandtheft auto trilogy, remaster of Grandtheft auto three in Grandtheft auto vice city in Grandtheft auto San Andreas, but I can see how people that are fans of the original video games would not appreciate it, or like the modern infuse into the graphics of these amazing classical video games.
These titles were subject to a lot of scrutiny and drama which most was well deserved. The current state of the remasters is more of personal taste when it comes to how you want to explore and experience the story of these titles.
The graphics aren’t bad in my opinion after they did some changes like the annoying rain filter effect the scene. What do you think? Gameplay is King
The graphics in video games to me are of outmost important, but I would leave them at 49% of the experience at best. The other percentage of what makes a video game great would be gameplay.
Dead space remake showcases a great example of changes done to gameplay in order to make a classical video game. A better video game.
One of the big gameplay changes is that the USCG Ishimura is interconnected with pathways leading almost to all the locations without having to get into a loading screen making it a superbly immersive, seamless, and scary journey.
Resident evil 2 remake and more than likely resin evil 4 remake will also be great examples of gameplay improvements that make the game faster and smoother to play which might alienate fans of the Claster phobic slower gameplay of the original games.
Nonetheless, these changes are proven to be successful and appreciated by the majority of modern gamers, therefore allowing more possible gamers to keep the game a chance and actually enjoy it.

One of my biggest annoyances with Nintendo is how they don’t allow us to have easy and legal access by paying even a premium amazing older classical video game titles like the Metroid Prime series.
Metroid Prime has earned its reputation as one of the most beloved and respected video game series due to its innovative gameplay, immersive narrative, and stunning visuals. Players explore an extraterrestrial world as Samus Aran, a bounty hunter armed with a variety of weapons and special powers. The game encourages exploration, rewarding players for uncovering secrets. Alongside the challenging platforming sections and various puzzles, Metroid Prime also features an engaging storyline that gradually reveals more about the mysterious planet Tallon IV. With its unique atmosphere, varied locations, top-notch presentation, and imaginative enemies, Metroid Prime is definitely worthy of its place as one of gaming’s greatest accomplishments.
This gem of a series is stuck in the Nintendo GameCube so emulation is the only way to truly experience or even have a chance at these amazing titles in modern day gaming.
